How to prepare product images for Shopify
Use a consistent aspect ratio across a product collection so gallery cards align cleanly. Start with a sharp original, keep the subject framed consistently, and resize copies for each destination instead of repeatedly editing the original.
What is the best Shopify product image size?
For a square product photo, 2,048 × 2,048 pixels is a useful default. The best aspect ratio still depends on your theme and product photography. Check how images crop on collection cards as well as product pages.
Does resizing reduce image file size?
Usually. Pixel dimensions, output format, image complexity, and quality all affect the final file size. JPG is a practical default for photos, PNG supports transparency, and WebP often creates smaller web-ready files.
